New American figure skater in Azerbaijani team

Changes come forth in Azerbaijani Figure Skating. No, Baku didn’t build ice arena and our figure skaters didn’t become leaders of the World. Azerbaijani team will accept twenty years old American sportsman-model Morgan Matthews.Vice-president of National Federation Fuad Guliyev said that Matthews tried to get Azerbaijani passport so actively that she incurred USA Figure Skating Federation officials displeasure. “I went to USA and settled it very hard, – Guliyev said.- Americans didn’t want to let Morgan go”.
Matthews prepared letter for country president Ilham Aliyev with request to give her Azerbaijani citizenship. But if she get our passport she will have to wait a little with participation in World arena. Morgan parted from her partner Maksim Zavozin. They won junior world competition among dance pairs together. They skated on Russian Cup last time. Now she has new partner and they have to create new programs.
As Guliyev make prognosis this pair of couple will be able to participate for Azerbaijan in World Championship-2008. “Matthews with her new partner can become the first pair in Azerbaijan. She leaved Kristin Fraser and Igor Lukanin behind with her previous partner. Morgan coaches are Olympic Champions Nataliya Linichuk and Gennadi Karponosov”.
